Biochar affects silicification patterns and physical traits of rice leaves cultivated in a desilicated soil (Ferric Lixisol)

چکیده

Increasing the leaf silicification of cereal crops to ameliorate defenses against stresses and improve yields constitutes a major challenge in (sub-)tropical regions with highly desilicated soils. We tested efficacy different biochars – as readily available alternatives commercial fertilizers increase understand subsequent impacts traits that might benefit crops. compared application two (rice-derived biochar 198 g kg− 1 Si cotton-derived 4 Si) wollastonite (240 at rates on patterns rice growing pots containing soil (Ferric Lixisol) from Burkina Faso. Leaf increased 19.0 70.4 addition (control < cotton biochar), resulting larger epidermal silica deposits. carbon (C), mass per area (LMA) arc decreased were negatively correlated Si, however, surprisingly, force punch plant biomass decreased. demonstrate effective use environments status their associated traits. In particular, decrease LMA shows promising capacity reduce C costs. situ trials are now needed investigate whether or not these beneficial effects may result crop through resilience environmental stresses.

Rice (Oryza sativa L) plantation affects the stability of biochar in paddy soil

Conversion of rice straw into biochar for soil amendment appears to be a promising method to increase long-term carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The stability of biochar in paddy soil, which is the major determining factor of carbon sequestration effect, depends mainly on soil properties and plant functions. However, the influence of plants on biochar stability in...

Biochar from commercially cultivated seaweed for soil amelioration

Seaweed cultivation is a high growth industry that is primarily targeted at human food and hydrocolloid markets. However, seaweed biomass also offers a feedstock for the production of nutrient-rich biochar for soil amelioration. We provide the first data of biochar yield and characteristics from intensively cultivated seaweeds (Saccharina, Undaria and Sargassum--brown seaweeds, and Gracilaria, ...

Biochar Impacts on Soil Physical Properties and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Biochar, a co-product of a controlled pyrolysis process, can be used as a tool for sequestering C in soil to offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and as a soil amendment. Whereas the impacts of biochar application on soil chemical properties are widely known, the research information on soil physical properties is scarce. The objectives of this review are to (i) synthesize available data on s...
